AGM Report 2018

Dear members,

Our AGM was held in the Village Inn, Kildalkey on 7th February 2019. There were 17 members present. Attendees were as follows:

Tom Carroll, Martin Blake, Peter Kelly, Richie Delea, John O'Connor, James Monaghan, Brendan Corrigan, David Dolan, Michael Collins, Karl Stewart, Stephen Skelly, Brian Heverin, Chippy Quinn, Terry Farrell, Ian Kennedy, Kieran McGurran who again travelled a way to be with us and Paul Fagan our host. Apologies received from Bill Hayes.

Secretary Tom Carroll opened the meeting and welcomed all those present to the the 13th KGS AGM no less. The committee had met 16 times during the year. He thanked Brendan Corrigan who did an outstanding job in getting lads organised on the tee on game day. He looked forward to more of the same next season.
He thanked all past and present founding members on what has turned out to be a success in our locality and the committee will endeavour to keep up the good work to date and progress the society into the future.
He pointed out that the society had grown from 23 members in 2013 to 50 members in 2018.

Tom asked everyone to congratulate and show their appreciation to our outgoing captain for 2018 Martin Blake on a memorable and successful year as captain. Tom noted that Martin was our 2nd captain, after David Dolan to set foot on mainland Europe. His singing and rapping was superb.

Tom then gave a brief outline to the committee of all the outings during the 2018 season and congratulated all the winners. Tom joked that we may have to increase the score of 40 or more to 45 for a complimentry Society jersey such was the good scoring during the year not to mention the cost. Special mention was for Michael Collins with a staggering score of 47 in Knightsbrook. He'll be on his knees now thanks to the handicap committee.

On behalf of the society he also thanked all our sponsors during the year who were as follows:
The Village Inn, Harmon Oil, Progressive Plumbing, ARCH Plumbing & Heating and Athboy Physiotherapy & Sports Clinic. Sponsors are a much needed fillip to the society and he encouraged members to seek out new sponsors as we can't expect to keep tapping up the same ones year after year.

He also thanked Emma and Paul Fagan of the Village Inn for their hospitality during the year.

Tom then offered thanks to the Portgal trip organising committee, John, Martin, James, Richie and Peter for one of the best trips he was ever on. Every success for 2020.

Tom pointed out to those in attendance the new society wall plaque recently erected in the Village Inn lounge by kind permission of Paul and Emma.

Next congratulations were offered to our Golfer of the Year in the guise of Christy Duignan with a magical 146 averaging 36.5 points per round. Well done to Christy.

In ending his address, Tom thanked all who helped throughout the year. Richie described as the heartbeat of the Society, Peter the Eddie Hobbs of the Society, David the dependable banker, James the boss, Bill the draw expert, Brendan the problem solver and John for whatever he does! And finally Martin for his captaincy in 2018.

And finally from Tom the venues were announced for 2019 with an added fixture this year as it was felt the summer break was a bit too long.

Next up was the treasurers report given by our treasurer Peter Kelly. Peter outlined that finances were in a healthy state and the following were the income and expenditure for 2018:

Income Amount Expenditure Amount
Sponsorship €1,050 Bank Charges €146.83
Membership €2,300 Cost of Snacks €118.56
Table Quiz €635 Charity Donation €300
School History Issue Advert €50
Funeral Flowers €40

Captains Day Subsidy €380
Outings Prizes €1,800
Deposits for 2019 €939.47

The cost of membership is to remain at €50 for 2019 and the committee will be making an announcement about the fee at the first outing at Seapoint.

There will be no change in the GOY calculation so that it will still be best 4 scores carded from the 8 outings given the addition of an 8th venue for 2019 in August.

Then outgoing captain Martin Blake addressed the meeting. He congratulated all the winners in 2018 and thanked the committee for their assistance during the year. He was pleased to announce that he was passing the batton on to the new captain to a person who had previously served as secretary and also as current committee member and this was John O'Connor. John accepted the captaincy and his first task was to draw a name for free membership for the coming season from those in attendance. And what are the chances. David Dolan was drawn again having been already drawn on 2 previous occassions.

Next up was the election of committee for 2019. As there were no nominations for the positions of Secretary, Treasure and Handicap Secretary and the incumbents were happy to continue in position for another year, they were proposed and seconded unanimously. Remainimg committee members were also all happy to continue.
Bill Hayes was nominated for the position of President by Tom Carroll and seconded by Chippy Quinn. Bill will be president for another year. Michael Collins was co-opted onto the committee having been proposed by Chippy Quinn and seconded by Karl Stewart. There were no other nominations.

Next item on the agenda was to discuss motions received. There was one motion received having been proposed by B.Hayes and seconded by P.Rochford. The motion was "That a Bus be inquired about for long trips away". This was discussed among those present and some felt it would be more suited to any overnight stays away. It was adopted however and enquiries will be made for prices and members would be notified via the normal webtexts to gauge interest and feedback.

Under any other business, M.Collins sought views and interers in organsing a Matchplay competition amongst members to run throughout the coming season. Michael outlined that members should organise matches among themselves which were to be played by a certain date at a venue agreed by themselves. He also said that if all matches were played at a nominated venue we could avail of a special deal for green fees. Michael also pointed out that it would be a great opportunity for members to play with members whom they may never have played with before.

During discussion it was mentioned that it could prove difficult for some members in getting time off to get the match played by the agreed date, the distance some members might have to travel to play a match. It might be more suited to local village members. It was agreed to send out a webtext to gauge interest for the matchplay and arrange or not based on feedback.

As there was no further items the meeting ended.

Many thanks,

Tom Carroll
Secretary
