AGM Report 2017

Dear members,

Our AGM was held in the Snug House, Kildalkey on 16th February 2018 and we were delighted to have an attendance of 16 out of 47 paid up members. Attendees were James Monaghan, Martin Blake, Michael Collins, Karl Stewart, Richie Delea, Bill Hayes, Tom Carroll, Stephen Skelly, John O'Connor, Peter Kelly, Anthony Quinn, David Dolan, Brian Giles, Terry Farrell, Brendan Corrigan and Kieran McGurran who travelled from Mullingar to be with us.

Captain James Monaghan opened the meeting for John O'Connor who was detained. He welcomed all in attendance and gave an account of the winners and attendance figures for the years outings. James also mentioned that this year we had the most over 40 scores with 5 no less.

Treasurer Peter Kelly outlined his report to the meeting. Finances were healthy with €1,000 having been received in sponsorship. Peter thanked all our sponsors for the year which included Arch Plumbing & Heating Ltd., Harmon Oil, Progressive Plumbing Ltd., Dempsey Travel and Athboy Physiotherapy & Sports Clinic. Our Table Quiz realised €780 with €300 donated to the Meath Hospice. The average prize spend per outing was €305 with the cost of over 40 score jumpers amounting to €270. Bank charges amounted to €74. Cost of snacks were €114 for the year. Captains Day subsidy was €370 and deposits paid for 2018 courses was €1,116.

James then mentioned it was the first year we had a President's Cup prize and that it was to be held again in Powerscourt in 2018. James thanked Kieran McGurran for donating his Turkey and Ham prize from the Turkey Shoot competition in Headford last November. He also thanked Richie Delea for keeping the website updated and it was a handy tool to reflect back on the years proceedings. Michael Collins was thanked for the new 2018 pocket calenders. Sean and Jackie McCabe of the Snug House were thanked for looking after us during our various meetings and after outings and Table Quiz during the year.

The new handicap system was up next for discussion and it was agreed that it was working well and would be kept and reviewed again for another year. Our Secretary John O'Connor was stepping down from his post and was thanked for all his efforts and work during his term of office. Tom Carroll was then proposed for the position of Society Secretary by Martin Blake and seconded by David Dolan. Tom accepted the challange and was elected by the committee. John O'Connor was staying on as a member of the committee and he thanked committee members for their assistance during his time as Society Secretary.

James presented the courses for 2018 to the meeting and said that the high standard of venue would be continued for the coming year. The date for the first outing in Killeen Castle was brought forward to 4th March as 11th was Mother's Day. The 2nd outing in Lough Erne may present itself as an opportunity for an overnight stay to those who may be interested.

Our new Captain for 2018 was presented to the meeting in the guise of Martin Blake. Martin congratulated all winners for 2017 and welcomed the first outsider Kieran McGurran for his attendance at the meeting. He also thanked John O'Connor for his past service and the committee for their stewardship of the Society. He likened the Society's outing to Lough Erne as a "Break for the Border".

The annual Ryder Cup series with Marcies of Trim was discussed next and it was outlined that they were no longer keen in participating. It was proposed that we seek out another Society and that contact be made with Neil Hand to discuss the matter with his Society.

The membership fee is to remain at €50 considering the quality of courses on offer. Terry Farrell won the draw for free membership among those attending at the AGM. The question of membership numbers was raised next and it was decided to cap it at 50 members as it was getting cumbersome to manage and we may be unable to accommodate overly large numbers on outings where there would be high demand. A text is to be sent to all existing members to ascertain their interest in renewing their membership for 2018 and any spots available up to 50 would be allocated on a first come first served basis.

Next item briefly discussed was the procurement of a Society Plaque containing Captains and GOY etc. information to be placed in the local hostalries on alternate hostings or similar. This is to be acted on post AGM.

A short discussion ensued on a motion pertaining to how unfair it was as to the late arrivals of the last couple of groups on play days affecting those committee members tasked with the green fees collection. It was unfair to committee members on the day who were often present from early morning without adequate preparation for play. The committee is to drive this home to members to encourage their earliest attendance on play days and also to speed up slow play. A 4.5 hour round should be achievable by all.

Kind Regards,
Tom Carroll
Secretary
