AGM Report 2015

Dear members,

Our AGM was held in the Snug House, Kildalkey on 26th November 2015 and we were delighted to have an attendance of 15 members. Attendees were James Monaghan, Martin Blake, Brian Heverin, Michael Collins, Karl Stewart, Richie Delea, Bill Hayes, Mattie Lynch, Tom Carroll, Stephen Skelly, John O'Connor, Peter Kelly, Anthony Quinn, David Dolan and Jimmy Clarke. Apologies were received from Brian Carroll, Trevor Darling, Jim O'Neill, Martin Hickey, Damien Prior, Ian Kennedy and William Monaghan.

John opened the meeting by mentioning the passing of Trevor Darling's father, George, who passed away earlier in the week. The thoughts of the committee and members are with the Darling family at this time. This sentiment was echoed by all speakers through the evening.

John moved on by congratulating the entire society for the 2015 year. With 39 members we were delighted to maintain membership numbers from 2014 and are looking to further increase the membership with new and returning members where possible. The quality of the courses played helped significantly in the improved numbers. In total 199 members participated in the 6 rounds during the year. We are looking forward to some of the visitors from 2015 becoming members in 2016.

Special mention and thanks was given to each of the following:

* James Monaghan for organising fabulous courses for 2015.
* Tom Carroll for his work as society captain including quality of prizes throughout the year.
* Karl Stewart for maintaining a tight rein on the finances of the society.
* Richie Delea for his excellent work as handicap secretary during the year. Along with this Richie is responsible for the updating of all information on www.kildalkeygolf.com website.
* All other committee members (Bill Hayes, Mattie Lynch, Trevor Darling) for their assistance in the smooth running of the society through the year.
* Thanks also to Sean and Jackie and all the staff in the Snug House for their constant support of our society.

Karl then spoke briefly with the Treasurer's Report. For the year 2015 the society has not lost any monies and sponsorship of prizes for Druids Glen outing by Progressive Plumbing (Tom Carroll and Brian Carroll) was greatly appreciated. Kildalkey Golf Society donated €150 to the Kidalkey Under 14 Camogie Team for their trip to play in the Feile. Bank charges incurred during the year amounted to €47 and our average spend on prizes per outing was €225. Based on the quality of courses proposed for 2016 Karl recommended discussion to increase membership back up to €50 per player in order to maintain cost of €50 per round and keep quality of prizes high. Deposits paid to courses for the upcoming year totalled €250 to date and our bank balance remains in a healthy position.

Outgoing captain Tom then took the floor. Winners from 2015 were congratulated with witty comments from Tom referring to each outing - from Stephen Skelly getting the cold shoulder to the vision of Richie Delea's clothing being driven up the 18th!

As we enter the 10th year of Kildalkey Golf Society we look forward to an ever increasing enjoyable society playing quality golf on quality courses. New and existing members all welcome. Congratulations to our golfer of the year 2015, Brian Heverin following a superb year of golf with the prize not decided until the final round. Even though he lost the head (of his 4 iron) during the year Brian managed to hold it together to the end!

And a new member of the 40's club was born following Karl's magnificent 40 points in Glasson.

As a society we are delighted to have recaptured the Ryder Cup from Marcies following a record 13-5 victory. Now we have the simple matter of retaining the cup in 2016. Tom thanked each committee member (along with more witty comments) for their assistance and work during the year. Barry Smith was thanked for his help in arranging Kildalkey Golf Society tops and jumpers as needed.

Tom then performed his final duty as Captain, nominating David Dolan as Captain for 2016. This was seconded and David was welcomed onto the committee. Well done Tom on your year and the best of luck to David for 2016.

John explained that with increase in costs of all courses it was decided to include a reasonably priced course (Moyvalley) along with premier courses. This will allow us to keep the cost of golf at €50 per round, with visitors paying €20 premium as before. Any visitor playing and paying premium for two rounds will be encouraged to join as member. For an overnight option it was felt that Slieve Russell offers the best value and it will be decided later whether this option will be taken up.

Motions discussed as follows:

  • Increase cost of membership from €40 to €50 for 2016 - carried
  • Society to play off middle tees unless overridden by course - carried
  • Change in handicap system for those on single figure handicaps - defeated
  • Increase maximum handicap to 30 - carried

John discussed the potential of having a table quiz for the society to help raise funds. It has been agreed that society will play off the middle tees on all courses unless overridden by the course. The committee put themselves forward for re-election and Tom Carroll was voted onto committee for coming year.

Finally, a draw was held for all attendees with the prize being free membership for coming year and the winner was David Dolan.

Overall agreement was reached that the society is running well and on that basis there is no need for any other changes in operations.

Kind Regards,
John O'Connor
Secretary
